Vietnam e-visa guide – Everything You Need to Know

The electronic visa, also known as Vietnam eVisa, is processed online by the Vietnam Immigration Department. The validity period of the electronic visa is 30 days, and foreigners using an eVisa are allowed a single entry into Vietnam.

Who is eligible for an electronic visa to Vietnam?

Citizens of 80 countries visiting Vietnam, regardless of their purpose such as tourism, business investment, visiting relatives, employment, marriage, etc., are eligible for an electronic visa to Vietnam:

Citizens who are not listed above or wish to stay in Vietnam for more than 30 days or require a regular visa for entry into Vietnam should contact PNVT immediately for consultation and assistance.

Regulations on eVisa

To apply for Vietnam eVisa, please note the following:

  • Passport with at least 6 months validity from the date of entry into Vietnam and at least 2 blank pages.
  • Applicants for eVisa should be currently outside Vietnam or in Vietnam and not subject to entry restrictions according to Vietnamese law.
  • Passport page with personal information and photo (passport photo page).
  • Photo file (clear facial image with white background).
  • Bank account for transferring the eVisa fee payment.

Process of applying for an eVisa

Option 1: Applying for Vietnam eVisa by yourself

  • 4x6cm photo (file)

  • Relevant information (entry date, port of entry, etc.)
  • Supporting documents (such as for visiting relatives, business purposes, tourism, etc.) (file)

Steps to apply for eVisa

Check the box “Confirmation of reading carefully instruction and having completed application” then select “Next” to proceed.

Step 1: Enter the eVisa application information:

  • Upload a passport photo and the passport information page (forward-facing, no glasses).

  • Provide all the required information as instructed * Note:Accurate information is crucial. Incomplete or incorrect information may result in application rejection.

Children under 14 years old can be included in the same eVisa application with the parent/guardian. If the applicant is applying for an eVisa for a child, they can enter the child’s information as well.

  • Review the application information and make any necessary corrections.
  • After this step, the applicant will be assigned an Electronic File Code (it is advised for foreign applicants to keep a record of this code for future reference on the eVisa portal).

Step 2: Pay the eVisa processing fee using the online payment tool;

The eVisa processing fee is paid through the electronic payment portal specified by the Immigration Department. The eVisa processing fee and the electronic payment fee are non-refundable in case the visa application is not approved.

  • Fee: The fee for Vietnam eVisa is 25 USD per person.

Step 3: After 5-7 days, foreign applicants can use the Electronic File Code to check the result. If the application is approved, they can proceed to print the eVisa for entry/exit purposes in Vietnam.

Print the eVisa and present it along with the passport at the immigration checkpoint (airport or international border gate that accept eVisa entry).

Foreigners granted eVisa Vietnam (through the self-application process) must leave the country when the eVisa expires and are not allowed to convert or extend the eVisa.

Option 2: Applying for eVisa via a sponsoring organization in Vietnam

Documents to apply for eVisa via a sponsoring company, institution or organization

Prepare the following documents:

  • Business registration certificate (scanned file)
  • Passport (scanned file)
  • 4x6cm photo (scanned file)
  • Other information: date of entry, entry checkpoint

Steps to apply for eVisa via a sponsoring company, institution or organization

Create an access account

Before requesting an eVisa for foreign nationals entering Vietnam, the sponsoring company or organization must request an access account and register for electronic signature usage.

Procedure to request an access account

The company, organization, or individual should submit a written request for an eVisa portal access account using Form 03, issued together with Government Decree No. 07/2017/ND-CP dated January 25, 2017. The request should be submitted at the Immigration Department (where the company or organization is headquartered or where the individual has permanent residence).

If the company or organization does not have a legal entity file at the Immigration Department, the following documents should be submitted: a notarized copy of the establishment license, an introduction letter of the company’s seal and signature according to Form NA16, issued together with Circular No. 04/2015/TT-BCA.

Within 3 working days from the date of receiving a complete and valid application, the Immigration Department will provide the access account to the organization.

The procedure for requesting an access account and registering for electronic signature usage is only done once, except in cases where there are changes to the registered information or the account is canceled according to regulations.

Request for eVisa issuance

After being granted access account and permission to use electronic signature, the request for eVisa issuance for foreigners is carried out through the following steps:

1. Use the granted access account to log in to the declaration section and submit the application for eVisa issuance: https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/web/guest/dv-bao-lanh

2. Enter the information of the foreigner requesting eVisa;

  • Upload the scanned passport information page and passport photo (forward-facing, no glasses) of each foreigner;
  • After completing the information entry for each applicant, the system will provide an Electronic file code for the eVisa issuance of each foreigner.

3. Use the electronic signature to confirm the requested information;

4. Pay the eVisa issuance fee;

5. Use the granted access account to check the result. If approved, send the Electronic file code to the foreigner to print the eVisa for entering/exiting Vietnam.

If the eVisa for foreigners is applied via the sponsoring organizations or institutions, it can be converted or extended to allow for a longer stay in Vietnam.

eVisa Fees

The eVisa application fee for entering Vietnam is $25/pax.

The eVisa application fee is non-refundable, so please check the information in the application form carefully.

Notes when applying for Vietnam eVisa

  • The entry checkpoint stated on the eVisa cannot be changed. You cannot modify that information even after submitting the eVisa application or after the visa has been issued. If you wish to change the entry checkpoint, you will need to apply for a new visa.
  • Normally, you will receive your eVisa within 5-7 working days. However, the visa processing time may vary depending on the number of applicants or public holidays. Therefore, it is recommended to submit your application two weeks prior to your visit to Vietnam.
  • Group applications for eVisa are not allowed. Each application is valid for 01 individual applicant.
  • After being granted the Electronic file code, please remember to keep it for future reference and easy result retrieval.
  • Vietnamese individuals are not allowed to apply for eVisa on behalf of foreigners. Foreign nationals need to personally submit their application or go through organizations or institutions in Vietnam to apply for eVisa.
